homoPhObiaLAND
This project is deeply personal — born out of frustration, fear, and the need to speak out.
After years of rising political hostility and open discrimination against LGBT+ people in Poland — my home — I knew I had to act. I channelled my anger, grief, and hope into photography. The result is homoPhObiaLAND.
The name itself is a play on words. The capitalized “POLAND” embedded within “homophobia” points directly at my country — a place where, for years, queer lives have been debated, invalidated, and politicized. In a land that should offer safety and freedom, fear became a daily companion for many of us.
When the government changed in 2023, hope returned. Slowly, the tone began to shift. A country that once fueled exclusion started — tentatively — to speak a more inclusive language. For a brief moment, it felt like homoPhObiaLANDmight become just a memory, a document of a dark chapter.
But the recent presidential elections have brought back uncertainty. A surge in support for far-right rhetoric reminds us that progress is fragile. That our stories still matter. That our voices still need to be heard.
This project is my resistance. It’s also my tribute — to the strength, vulnerability, and beauty of those who live authentically despite it all. To those who still live in fear, and to those who dare to love openly: this is for you.
What a courageous and important message! Very well done!
